  • DOS Alert: Overall Movement of Cut-off Dates for Diversity Visas (FY2014) (6/2/2014)
    AILA Liaison practice alert informs members that many more applicants registered for DV-2014 are pursuing their cases for visa issuance than in years past. This increased response is resulting in greater visa number use by those with lower rank numbers and slower forward movement of the cut-offs.

  • DOS Alert: Availability of Visa Numbers for EB-3 China (5/28/2014)
    DOS has confirmed that as of 5/9/14 it stopped authorizing visa numbers for EB-3 China cases that will be impacted by the June 2014 retrogression. Cases in which a visa number has been requested by USCIS but not authorized by DOS will be placed in a “pending” file until the priority date is current.

  • Practice Alert: NVC Experiencing High Call Volume (4/22/2014)
    DOS Liaison Committee alert that NVC’s phone system is experiencing high call volume and many callers have been unable to contact NVC by phone. AILA advises members to call NVC during off-peak times, 7am to 10am (ET) and 8pm to 12am (ET).

  • Practice Pointer: DOS Policy Change Regarding Children Born Abroad Through ART (3/6/2014)
    DOS Liaison Committee practice pointer on the 01/14/14 DOS policy update on the transmission of U.S. citizenship at birth to a child born abroad through assisted reproductive technology (ART). This policy applies retroactively, however DOS will not reopen previously denied applications.
