Accessibility Statement

9/26/24

At the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), we value digital inclusion and strive to make our websites accessible to anyone regardless of their abilities or circumstances. We are committed to applying accessibility best practices and standards as we continuously improve your experience on our websites.

An overview of AILA’s accessibility practices for our online properties has been provided below.

Standards and Practices
Our ongoing efforts to provide a usable and accessible digital experience are guided by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. When developing new content and features, we try to meet or exceed WCAG Level A compliance.

Some of these efforts include:

  • Using alternative text for images and non-text elements
  • Ensuring ease of navigation by coding pages with proper structural markup for headers, lists, and titles
  • Providing closed captioning or transcripts for videos or for audio-only content
  • Performing optical character recognition (OCR) on PDF and other online documents so that they are machine-readable
  • Allowing users to resize text, contrast colors, and change fonts via their web browser
  • Use ADA-compliant colors and ADA-compliant fonts for text
  • Avoid content that can trigger seizures (i.e., avoid any content that flashes more than three times in a second)

Known Limitations
While we make every effort to conform with accessibility guidelines and standards, there are known areas of our sites that may present challenges to some users:

  • Not all videos have transcripts or closed captioning.
  • Older historic PDF, Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint documents may not be fully accessible by screen reader software.
  • Embedded content from third-party websites (YouTube, Quorum, Instagram, HubSpot, etc.) and some legacy systems (AILA Lawyer, Message Center) may not be fully accessible.
