AILA Doc. No. 17050837 | Dated September 25, 2017
On 9/25/17, the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that parts of the Texas Senate Bill 4 (SB 4) "show me your papers" law can go into effect. The decision overrules U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia’s temporary injunction, which was issued on 8/30/17.
In additional to targeting immigrant communities, SB 4 provides civil and criminal penalties for localities and law enforcement agencies and university police departments in Texas who have or implement new policies that build trust with immigrant communities.
