DHS Secretary Issues Statement on Situation at the Southwest Border
DHS Secretary Mayorkas issued a statement regarding the situation at the southwest border. Per Mayorkas, the U.S. is “on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border” than it has in the last 20 years. The statement outlines how DHS is managing encounters with single adults and families, most of whom are being expelled, and with unaccompanied children, who are being processed by CBP for transfer to HHS. The statement also outlines other actions taken by DHS and the path forward.
