P.L. 115-141: Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018
On 3/23/18, the President signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018 (H.R. 1625) to fund the government until September 30, 2018.
On 3/23/18, the U.S. Senate passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018 on a 63 to 32 vote. The House approved the omnibus spending bill on a 256 to 167 vote on 3/22/18.
On 3/21/18, the U.S. House of Representatives released the legislative text of its $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill for the remainder of FY2018. On immigration, the bill includes an increase of $1.6 billion for border security, as well as funding for 20% more detention beds and additional agents; and no protection for Dreamers. One positive aspect of the bill is the inclusion of a provision, similar to what was agreed upon in FY2017, to provide limited relief to H-2B employers who need temporary foreign workers to supplement their workforce and sustain seasonal business operations. The bill also extend the Religious Worker, Conrad 30, EB-5, and E-Verify programs for the remainder of FY2018.
