U.S. and Guatemala Issue Joint Statement on Efforts to Reduce Border Migration

U.S. and Guatemala issued a joint statement on initiatives aiming to reduce border migration, including expanding capacity of “migrant reception,” adjudication of protection claims, shelter, and removal infrastructure. The governments also announced an agreement to develop a Foreign Labor Recruiter program for Guatemalan H-2A workers. Under this agreement, the U.S. will prioritize H-2A visa appointments ahead of other non-immigrant visa categories for Guatemalans.
