WASHINGTON, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) will recognize Alexandra Kennedy of Seattle, WA, with the 2016 Sam Williamson Mentor Award in acknowledgment of her outstanding efforts and excellent counsel to immigration attorneys by providing mentoring assistance. The award will be presented this week during AILA's Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
Alexandra "Ally" Kennedy is the founder of AMIGA Lawyers, the Association of Mother ImmiGration Attorneys. AMIGA provides mother immigration attorneys an uplifting, collaborative, and inspiring community premised upon the "Whole-istic Approach to the Practice of Law." AMIGA focuses on the "whole-istic" self, which is comprised of Amiga members' passion for their children, motherhood, immigration law, and their law businesses. Through AMIGA, Ms. Kennedy offers information and resources to help mother immigration attorneys (or "Amigas," as the members are called) in their quests to balance motherhood with being lawyers, and to provide the support that they need to prepare winning cases and create thriving businesses.
Ms. Kennedy writes a weekly e-newsletter, "The Amiga Bulletin," which includes articles about running a solo and small practice, immigration law, balancing lawyering with mom-ing, and more. She hosts a monthly webinar called "Amiga Power Hour" with topics dedicated to helping solo immigration practitioners and small firms run successful legal practices. She has created "Amiga Docs," which provides bilingual resources to help attorneys streamline their law firms and build their legal businesses. She offers one-on-one coaching and consulting on the business side of an immigration law practice and on removal defense for beginners. She also curates the AMIGA online forum, where she personally answers questions, mentors attorneys, and gives support to AMIGA members, all while running her Seattle-based law firm, Alexandra Kennedy Immigration Law, and raising her one-year-old son, Luis Enrique.
A passionate advocate for empowering mother immigration attorneys to create the careers that they desire while having the family lives that they want, Ms. Kennedy has been a member of AILA since law school, and has previously served on the AILA Washington Chapter's Executive Board and as Co-Chair of the ICE Liaison Committee.
