House Bill: U.S. Citizenship Act

2/18/21 AILA Doc. No. 21021834. Congress

On 2/18/21, Representative Sánchez (D-CA) introduced the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 in the House “to provide an earned path to citizenship, to address the root causes of migration and responsibly manage the southern border, and to reform the immigrant visa system, and for other purposes.” An identical bill is expected to be introduced in the Senate by Senator Menendez (D-NJ) on 2/22/21.

This bill embodies the legislative proposals that President Biden announced on day one of his new administration. At this time, AILA has not yet taken a position on the bill, but will be carefully reviewing the legislative proposal to determine whether to endorse the legislation.
