New Edition of Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook Released by AILA
WASHINGTON, DC – The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is proud to release the 18th edition of Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook. Unique among immigration law texts, Kurzban’s Sourcebook is the must-have resource for immigration attorneys, judges, government officials, and law professors. Filled with expert guidance, the book helps readers navigate the labyrinthine U.S. immigration laws. For the first time, the 18th edition will be published as a two-book set in order to accommodate the vast amount of authoritative, comprehensive, and relevant analysis of U.S. immigration laws, along with new cases, regulations, and memos.
The new two-volume edition addresses the changes to removal policies and humanitarian programs as well as visa programs and benefits adjudications that have occurred since the publication of the last edition, including:
- New Supreme Court decisions from the 2021–22 term, most important federal cases through early October 2022, USCIS Policy Manual updates as well as relevant regulations through the end of September 2022 (some of which are highlighted below);
- New DACA regulations, including a definition of deferred action;
- New public charge regulations;
- New asylum regulations;
- The EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022;
- Premium processing;
- Reversal of certain COVID policies;
- Special Immigrant Juvenile Regulations;
- Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) guidelines;
- Recission of the 2019 presidential proclamation that suspended the entry of immigrants who could not demonstrate approved health insurance coverage;
- Changes in travel bans, refugee policy, public charge, asylum, Muslim ban;
- Changes in policies regarding STEM, including USCIS’s interpretation of NIWs and STEM;
- Changes in employment authorization for H-4s, Ls, and Es;
- Treatment of Afghan refugees;
- Changes in T visa policies;
- Duty of IJ to fully develop the record under Quintero in 4th Circuit, reversing Matter of WYC;
- Reversal of certain AG decisions, including Matter of Castro-Tum;
- Suing for damages against detention facilities;

About the author:
Ira J. Kurzban has been a renowned and highly respected member of the legal community for more than four decades. During his brilliant career as an immigration law specialist, Mr. Kurzban has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and successfully litigated many significant federal cases concerning the rights of noncitizens. He has received numerous prestigious awards and honors for his tireless work on behalf of immigrants, including AILA’s Jack Wasserman Award for excellence in federal litigation and the Edith Lowenstein Memorial Award for excellence in the advancement of immigration law, the University of Miami’s Lawyers of America Award for his work on behalf of human rights in this hemisphere, and the 2020 Leonard J. Theberge Award for Private International Law from the American Bar Association for his work in immigration and international law.
Today, Mr. Kurzban teaches immigration and nationality law at the University of Miami School of Law. He is a founder of the law firm of Kurzban, Kurzban, Tetzeli & Pratt, P.A., of Miami. Mr. Kurzban received his J.D. and M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
