Take Action: Urge Change to Unfair Legal Standards in Immigration Courts

We urge you to sign AILA’s petition calling on Attorney General Garland and Secretary Mayorkas to correct the unfair legal standards in immigration courts. Currently, immigrants must navigate an unnecessary and burdensome bar complaint requirement when their counsel's errors harm their cases, a hurdle that is inconsistent with the national standard set by the Supreme Court in Strickland v. Washington. By reinstating the Strickland standard, we can ensure fairer, more equitable treatment in immigration proceedings.
