Think Immigration: Empowering Immigration Professionals for the Challenges Ahead
With the recent election behind us, we are entering a new chapter in immigration law that promises to bring both immense challenges and critical opportunities. I wanted to take a moment to speak directly to our dedicated members, as well as those of you who are considering joining our community. Although I do not know everything that our future holds navigating forward, here’s what I do know: together, we can meet these challenges head-on and continue to advocate for justice, fairness, and the rights of immigrants.
I believe that AILA is more essential than ever. Why?
Education: Equipping You for the Future
At AILA, we believe that knowledge is power. As immigration laws and policies evolve, so must we. As part of our mission, we provide our members with the tools, resources, and educational opportunities they need to stay at the forefront of this dynamic field.
The incoming Administration presents significant uncertainty, but we are already gearing up to support the AILA community. Our 2025 conferences, town hall-style roundtables, publications, and more will focus on the most pressing issues facing immigration law, including family immigration, business immigration, removal defense, and federal court litigation. These resources will ensure you are equipped with the strategies to succeed.
We’ve also created a hub where members can access real-time updates, practice resources, and guidance tailored to the rapidly changing political climate.
Networking and Community: Stronger Together
Most importantly, there is nothing more powerful than the strength of our community. As we face challenges, we are not alone – we are in this together.
By joining AILA, you become part of a nationwide network of immigration professionals who share your commitment to justice and advocacy. Whether seeking advice or collaborating on complex cases, AILA connects you with others who can provide support. Consider signing up for a mentor, enrolling in a practice listserv, or joining an AILA interest group to find your people.
Advocacy: Leading the Charge for Change
AILA is not just about education and networking – it's about making an impact. It is part of our mission of promoting justice, advocating for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advancing the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhancing the professional development of AILA members.
As your President, I’m committed to advocating for policies that protect immigrant rights, strengthen businesses, and keep families together.
With the incoming Administration’s avowed plans to implement damaging policies, AILA is already working on advocacy efforts to combat these changes. From pushing for reforms to strategic litigation, we are on the frontlines defending immigrant rights.
By joining AILA, you add your voice to a collective effort that works to protect vulnerable communities, businesses needing workers, and families that simply want to be together in the United States. .
Well- Being and Resilience: Supporting Each Other
I know being an immigration lawyer is emotionally challenging. We have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. At AILA, we are committed to your well-being.
Through our well-being resources, mentorship programs, and community-building initiatives we ensure you never face these challenges alone. We’ve created spaces for members to connect, share experiences, and support each other through tough times.
Now Is the Time to Act
As we face the next few years, AILA is ready. Our resources, community, and advocacy will ensure you continue to provide exceptional service while standing up for values that make our country great.
If you haven’t already, I urge you to renew your membership or join AILA today. Together, we rise to the challenges ahead and fight for the dignity and rights of immigrants.
