Executive Order on Ending Federal Funding for Undocumented Immigrants
On 2/19/25, President Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14218 directing the head of each executive department or agency to identify all federally funded programs administered by the agency that currently permit undocumented immigrants to obtain any cash or non-cash public benefit, and consistent with applicable law, to take all appropriate actions to align such programs with the purposes of the order and the requirements of applicable federal law. The order further directs executive department or agency heads to ensure that federal payments to states and localities do not facilitate the subsidization or promotion of undocumented migration or aid “sanctuary city” policies, as well as to enhance eligibility verification systems to the maximum extent possible, among other actions.
