Academic Adoption
AILA offers several publications that are suitable texts for immigration classes and clinics.
The Essentials of Immigration Law book provides an overview of immigration law and is an excellent resource for your introductory immigration law class. If you're teaching a criminal immigration course, Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity is the perfect accompaniment, complete with expert analysis, "how-to" advice, and practice pointers. Are you supervising an immigration clinic? The Asylum Primer will provide you with a procedural "walk-through" of the entire asylum law system, while Representing Clients in Immigration Court will prepare the reader to succeed in immigration court. ACADEMIC ADOPTION PROCESS AND ORDERING
Professors may choose one or all (if eligible) of the options outlined below for academic adoption:
1. PUBLICATIONS:
Print or eBook (if available)
- AILA will provide professors with a coupon that can be shared with the class. Students will then be able to use the coupon to order directly from AILA by signing up for an account using their “.edu” address.
- Note on eBook page numbers: eBook page numbers are not equivalent to the page numbers set in the print version of a book since the eBook is meant to work across various screen sizes. Please utilize the titles of the chapters/sections/subsections contained in the Detailed Table of Contents to navigate the publication.
Procedure:
- Fill out the class academic adoption form and return it to AILA no later than 45 days before the start of your class.
- Note that you may choose to adopt both the print and the eBook version (if available) of a publication to provide your students with multiple options.
- AILA’s member services team will respond back to you with the applicable coupon code and instructions for students within 10 business days of receipt of your fully completed academic adoption form.
- Share the coupon code and instructions for ordering with students no later than two weeks before the start of class to allow for timely processing and shipping of the adopted book(s) to the students (standard shipping and processing time frame is 5¬-7 business days from the date of the order).

2. AILALINK:
Note on new editions: AILA’s books are published on AILALink anywhere from one to three months after the print/eBook publication date. If, for example, your course is starting in September and you are planning on adopting an edition of a publication that was published in July in its print/eBook format, that edition may not be available on AILALink until October. Please keep this in mind when planning your course—we recommend print/eBook adoption in such instances.

Standalone AILALink Adoption ($75)
Procedure:
- Fill out the class academic adoption form and return AILA no later than 45 days before the start of class.
- AILA will process the academic adoption form and provide you with an AILALink coupon and instructions for students within 10 business days.
- Professors should provide AILALink instructions to students no later than 10 business days before the start of class.
AILALink Adoption through AILA Law Student Membership (Free)
Students who are enrolled in a full-time capacity at an ABA-accredited law school may be eligible for Law Student Membership with AILA. Students enrolled in undergraduate and paralegal courses are not eligible. Licensed attorneys are not eligible.
Membership extends free access to AILALink to law student members.

Procedure:
- Complete the academic adoption form and return to AILA no later than 45 days before the start of your class. AILA’s team will process the form and provide you with instructions for your students, including the student membership application link, within 10 business days.
- Provide the student membership information to students no later than 10 business days before the start of class to allow for timely processing of the membership application.
After completing the academic adoption form, please submit it by emailing shop@aila.org.
