Requesting a waiver of the J-1 two-year residency requirement is often difficult to navigate, particularly for individuals applying under the exceptional hardship or persecution bases. Our panel of experts will present an overview of these waivers in the hardship and persecution contexts, and offer invaluable tips and tricks to help increase the chances of the waiver applications being approved.

Eligible participants can receive up to 1.8 CLE credit hours. AILA will administer CLE credit only to individuals who register and log into the web seminar. AILA cannot verify your attendance and participation in this program unless you register directly for the web seminar and use your name to log in to participate in the program. Therefore, persons who log in or listen in on the web seminar as part of a group will not be able to obtain CLE credit.

Mahsa Khanbabai is founder of Khanbabai Immigration Law, a boutique firm focusing on health care workers, employment-based immigration and consular processing issues, her dedication for this work stemming from her own J2 to U.S. citizen experience. Mahsa is an elected Director of AILA’s Board of Governors and serves on AILA’s DEI and USCIS Benefits & Policy Committees.
